Paul Taylor is an award-winning writer & director with a penchant for subverting the norm, toying with audience expectations, walking fine lines, sprinting on hot coals, and pushing boundaries.
The Details:
His directorial feature debut, Driftwood was awarded the Grand Jury Prize for narrative feature at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival. Variety described it as a “beguiling feature debut”, Hammer to Nail dubbed it as a “riveting cinematic experience”, Indiewire considered it one of five great films from Slamdance 2016 and Keyframe recently described it as an “…oddly seductive and discomfiting fairy tale.” It is currently streaming on Amazon, Fandor, Slamdance Channel, and Tubi.
His follow up short film, Succulent screened at the 2018 Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, AL and was part of Spectacle Theater’s “Hidden Visions” series in Brooklyn. A writer at Film Threat considered it “…one of the strangest films I’ve seen in a long time.”, which Paul thinks is pretty cool.
Kiddo, his newest short, screened at the 2022 Sarasota Film Festival and the Tallgrass Film Festival, the latter of which presented Kiddo with the award for “Outstanding Screenplay”. Film Threat described the film as “…a textbook example of how fully a single idea can be expressed in the short film format.” Screen Kiddo at Talkhouse and read a piece penned by Paul, exploring his tumultuous and tenuous relationship between filmmaking and parenthood.
Reruns, a feature length script, was initially developed through Sundance Collab in 2021 and was most recently invited to participate at the 2023 Stowe Story Labs to further its development.
His feature length script, Anne with a Van, was a Semifinalist of the 2024 Screencraft Feature Competition, a Quarterfinalist of Final Draft’s Big Break Screenwriting Competition, and a Second Rounder at Austin.
His short script, The Driver’s Seat was a Quarterfinalist in the 2024 Big Break Competition.
